How to Save Desktop Icons in Windows XP
To save desktop icons in Windows XP here are the steps you can take.
Step 1
Download the icon set. It is advised that you download the file to somewhere like your desktop so you can easily find the file.
- Create a new file on your desktop call it "my icons" or whatever you want. Decompress/unzip the file to "my icons."
Step 2
Create a new folder on your desktop or find a file that you want to change to one of the new icons.
Step 3
Right click on the folder you have selected
- Click "Create Shortcut."
Step 4
Locate created a shortcut on your desktop
- Right click on the shortcut. The "Properties" option will be displayed
- Select properties
Step 5
After selecting Properties you will see a dialogue window open
- Click on "Change Icon." Another window will appear showing numerous system icons you can choose from.
- Click "browse" and locate the file containing the icons you downloaded.
Step 6
Find your desired icon
- Click on your desired icon.
- Click on "open." Another window should open confirming your selected icon.
- Click on "okay" and the new icon you have chosen should show.
Remember to remove the original folder and the shortcut folder that are on your desktop. It is a good idea to hide the original folder somewhere safe on your computer.
