Audio control software refers to software applications that can play multi-digital formats, giving the user control over the control module’s sound, features, and appearance. Some of the more popular audio control software programs available today are Nullsoft Winamp, SnackAmp, Ecasound, Supercollider, and Microsoft’s Windows Media Player.

Nullsoft Winamp

Winamp is an audio control software that plays a variety of formats including MP3, MP1, MP2, AAC, WAV, WMA, MIDI, MOD, OGG, Vorbis, FLAC, etc. In addition, Nullsoft’s Winamp plays AVI files including MPEG and NSV (Nullsoft Streaming Video). Besides being able to play audio and video files, users can load many types of plugins, which are small modules that have special effects such as digital signal processing and stream satellite radio.

Skins can be placed on Winamp players. They give audio control software a unique appearance. There are many different skins available. For instance, users may put a skin on their Winamp player that makes it look like a sports car or an old analog radio.

Winamp also includes an equalizer, CD ripping and burning features, hot keys and gapless playback, and many other capabilities. Winamp also utilizes and plays files with DRM (Digital Rights Managements) in a variety of formats.

Audio Control Software

SnackAmp

SnackAmp is a digital audio player that runs on operating systems such as GNU, Linux, and Microsoft Windows. This is an open source software that GNU’s General Public License released. SnackAmp is similar to Winamp in that it plays MP3s, Ogg, WAV files, and audio streams. This software also allows users to control it through any web server via its remote control function. It has a fully integrated media manager that is intuitively designed and a remote socket interface.

Ecasound

Ecasound is a software package designed for multi-track audio processing. It can be used for simple tasks like audio playback, recording, format conversions, multitrack effect processing, mixing, recording, and signal recycling. Ecasound supports a wide range of audio inputs, outputs, and effect algorithms. Effects and audio objects can be combined in various ways and operator objects like oscillators and MIDI-CCs can control their parameters. A versatile console mode user interface is included in the package. The primary platform for running Ecasound is GNU/Linux. Ecasound can also be run on many Unix-derived systems such as FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris. Cygwin provides limited support for Windows.

SuperCollider

SuperCollider is an environment and programming language for real time audio synthesis and algorithmic composition. It provides an interpreted, object oriented language that functions as a network client to a state of the art, realtime sound synthesis server.

Microsoft Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player is a digital medium that Microsoft developed. It is commonly referred to as WMP. Besides being a digital media player that plays most audio formats, it is also a media library application. In its entirety, WMP can play many audio, video, and image formats on computers running Microsoft Windows operating systems or on PocketPC and Windows Mobile Devices.

While it can play many types of audio files including WMA (Windows Media Audio) and WMV (Windows Media Video), it can also play ASF (Advanced Streaming Format) files. Besides being an audio and video player, it can also rip and copy music to CDs. This player can also play DRM (Digital Rights Management) files.
