Can a Mac Get a Virus?
Despite the claims that Macs are somehow invulnerable to cyber threats, Macs are, in theory, no safer to use than PCs or any other device. However, because PCs are still much more common than Macs and have been around for much longer, virus writers attack Windows users much more often than they attack Mac users. While this means that Mac users are attacked less often, they are still often attacked and are under the same obligations to regularly use antivirus software in order to protect themselves from malicious programs.
iAntivirus
iAntivirus is an antivirus software that is designed to handle Mac-specific threats as PC-specific viruses cannot harm Macs. iAntivirus includes a number of features, such as constant background monitoring, a quarantine folder, and automatic updates. iAntivirus is known for its easiness to use, highly interactive user interface, and low resource usage. iAntivirus can be downloaded here and is completely free.
AVast Mac Edition
AVast Mac Edition is a free antivirus for the Mac Operating System that is currently in Beta mode. AVast Mac Edition provides Mac users with stable support against viruses and other malicious programs by using its three shield system that includes a Web Shield, Mail Shield, and a File Shield. While the Web Shield and Mail Shield combine to keep the user’s browser virus free, the File Shield performs both scheduled scans and background scanning to protect the user from any malicious programs that slip past the browser. AVast Mac Edition can be downloaded here.
