To configure your RCA DirectTV remote, you need to have the receiver's brand and model number. This can either be found within the instruction manual or it can be found on the back or the bottom of the box. Write this down so you don't have to keep going back to the box to get the digits. Put the box back where you want it and plug it in so that it can begin powering up.

Now that you've got the brand of the receiver, go into the instruction manual and find a 5-digit code that works with that brand number. There will probably be a handful of different codes that can be used, but just pick one. Write it down on a piece of paper and then put the instruction manual aside. If all goes well, you won't be needing it anymore.

With the DirectTV received powered up, move the slide to the DirectTV logo. Aim the remote control at the receiver and press the mute button and the select button at the exact same time. Hold it until the green light that is on the DirectTV received flashes twice. When this happens, release both the mute and the select buttons. Now you can begin configuring the remote control.

With that 5-digit code in hand, type it onto the remote. There is no need to hit enter or select.
