BlackBerry phones typically receive email via the BlackBerry Exchange mail service. The BlackBerry redirector checks the email account and forwards it to the BlackBerry device subscribed to the email address. The email addresses are listed in the RIM service provider database. The email is then transmitted to the phone on the wireless data network that the individual subscribes to. BlackBerry users can also send and receive third party email via IMAP service on the mobile phone's web browser or by configuring the email client for POP3 service from a non-BlackBerry email provider.

How Do you Synchronize a BlackBerry Phone?
Once the BlackBerrry Desktop Manager is installed, synchronize the phone to a computer. Connect the phone to the computer via the BlackBerry's USB cable in order to do this. Once connected, all contacts, emails, etc. will be uploaded to the computer and new information that the phone does not contain will be uploaded to it.
