How to Clean a Keyboard
Step-by-Step Method for Thoroughly Cleaning a Keyboard
Step One: Disconnect the keyboard from the computer and any other power source it may be plugged into.
Step Two: Using an object that can create a small amount of leverage (such as your house key), remove the individual keys from your keyboard. Simply use the house key or other object to wedge underneath each key and gently pop them off of the keyboard.
Step Three: Once all of the keys are removed from the keyboard, you can begin cleaning the keys by soaking them in warm water and soap.
Step Four: After you finish soaking the keys and have given them time to dry, if any of them are still dirty, you can use a can of Electronics Cleaning Fluid and a dust/lint free rag to wipe down any keys that need additional cleaning.
Step Five: Using normal Q-Tips, you can clean out dust and any other particles from the small spaces on the actual keyboard.
Step Six: Before reattaching the keys, use the Electronics Cleaning Fluid and a dust/lint free rag to wipe down rest of the surface of the keyboard.
Step Seven: Simply reattach the keys and plug the keyboard back into the computer (and any of its other power sources), and it will be ready to use again.
If you don't have time to perform a thorough cleaning of a keyboard, the best method for quickly cleaning it is to use Electronics Cleaning Fluid and a dust/lint free rag to wipe to down the surface of the keyboard (while the keys are still attached), along with Compressed Air to blow out dust and other particles from within the crevices of the keyboard.
