How to Link Twitter to Facebook
Social networks can be extremely time consuming, especially when they have to be updated individually. If Twitter and Facebook are linked, then status updates can be done in half the time. It only takes a few steps to link Twitter and Facebook.
How to Link Via Facebook
The simplest and most user friendly way to connect Twitter and Facebook is to use the Twitter application on Facebook. To do this:
- Locate the application’s page at http://apps.facebook.com/twitter/
- Log into Facebook.
- Click “Allow” when Twitter requests access to basic and profile information.
- Type in a Twitter username and password when prompted and click the “Allow” button.
- After signing in with Twitter account information, give Twitter permission to update the Facebook profile and/or Facebook page(s) by checking the box(es). (A Facebook profile is for individual use, while a Facebook page promotes or supports something like a business page or fan page).
- On the following page there will be a space to enter a tweet and see friends’ tweets.
- In order for Twitter to automatically update a Facebook status, click “Allow Twitter to Update Your Facebook Status” in the page’s upper right corner.
There is one drawback to updating Twitter with the Facebook application – tweets have to be entered directly into the Facebook application. If only the Facebook status is updated, it will not directly update Twitter.
How to Link Via Twitter
Many Twitter applications are becoming Facebook friendly. One of these applications is TweetDeck, which is a multi-purpose web based application. TweetDeck is a personal real time browser that connects the user to his/her social network contacts. This application has incorporated Facebook features and all the user has to do is click an additional check box to update Facebook with tweets or update Twitter with Facebook status updates.
Follow three simple steps to download TweetDeck:
- Go to the TweetDeck website.
- Click “Desktop” on the far left of the bar at the top of the page.
- Click “Download Now.”
TweetDeck not only links Twitter and Facebook accounts, but it also provides a wide variety of modern social networking options. All of the features TweetDeck offers are listed on their website directly below the “Download Now” button on the “Desktop” page.
Privacy
When Facebook and Twitter accounts are linked, any of the user’s Facebook friends that also use the application can locate his/her Twitter account. A user’s Twitter name and other identifying information (bio, profile picture, etc.) will only be displayed if he/she authorizes Twitter’s Facebook Application to link with his/her Facebook account.
