Stretchene
Stretchene is the name of a special kind of high-performance resin that falls under the polypropylene family of materials. Although it is considered as polypropylene, stretchene has better characteristics which make it a standout among all polypropylene materials.
Conventional polypropylene or PP (also polypropene) is a thermoplastic material mainly used for the packaging industry because it is resistant to many chemicals. The most common use of polypropylene is in food packaging.
Stretchene, however, has more desirable properties than conventional polypropylene. Thus, it is fit for even more applications such as storing of dry or powdered food and materials.
Types of Stretchene
There are two new existing grades of Stretchene. These two are the Stretchene RP1685 and the Stretchene RP1903.
Stretchene RP1685 surpasses materials that are made out of conventional polypropylene and other plastics. The most desirable quality of Stretchene RP1685 is its density at only 0.9g/cm3, which is very low compared to that of conventional materials. This enables manufacturers to produce relatively rigid materials which have lower overall weight.
Stretchene RP1903 also has density as low as that of Stretchene RP1685 but it is distinct from the latter because of its transparency. The Stretchene RP1903 has much better clarity. This makes this variant more fit for important applications in fields like the cosmetics industry and others that require good material clarity.
Processing and Using Stretchene
Stretchene is made into bottles and packaging materials through the use of the Injection Stretch Blow Molding method. This process is done by first injecting the resin into a specially designed mould. Then the resin is stretch-blown into the shape of the mold. This process will produce thin-walled and clear bottles which could be used in various applications where its properties are required.
Advantages
Stretchene has the following properties which give it clear advantages over conventional polypropylene and other plastics:
- It has better impact strength and more resistance against shock and breakage.
- Stretchene has better transparency, making it more fit for applications where clarity and transparency of packaging are required.
- This new type of polypropylene shows better rigidity as compared to the normal polypropylene. This means that all materials made up of Stretchene will have better resistance against deformation. Because of this volume changes or inconsistencies may be avoided especially among containers or vessels
- Output when it comes to the production of Stretchene is much better compared to that of conventional polypropylene.
The production of Stretchene requires less energy, too. The production of Stretchene typically requires less pressure from the blowers. This enables the manufacturer to save on resources.
Applications
Stretchene is specially designed to better accommodate and provide the necessary requirements for Injection Stretch Blow Molding applications (or ISBM). It is formulated to surpass and outperform existing and conventional polypropylene especially when it comes to rigidity and clarity.
Due to its properties, Stretchene proves ideal for bottling and food container applications. Aside from food packaging, Stretchene also has uses in the film production industry and household chemicals packaging.
