TCP Optimizer
A TCP optimizer is a program designed to optimize your Internet connection by tweaking the Windows registry settings. It provides an intuitive and easy-to-use interface for optimizing the TCP and IP settings in the Windows registry. TCP stands for Transmission Control Protocol. It is a connection-oriented protocol that provides reliable transfer of data. It is the main protocol utilized in IP networks.
Whether you are using a dial-up or broadband connection, a TCP optimizer can be efficiently used to optimize the speed of the connection. It accomplishes this by finding the best MTU, RWIN values, testing latency, considering Microsoft TCP/ID implementation oddities, all the related RFCs, and by adding the related registry parameters. Even novice users can use this program after going through the documentation. The tabbed interface makes it easy for all kind of users to tweak the settings. Also, the settings can be easily saved in the backup files; so you could easily undo the changes if you accidentally made a mistake while tweaking the registry settings, for example. It also comes with built-in Max-MTU and latency detection utilities.
Whenever Windows is installed, predetermined settings are stored in the registry that limit the amount of data that can be transferred over the network at any given time; a TCP optimizer maximizes the connection speed by changing these default settings so as to allow a larger amount of data to be transferred over the network at any given time. MTU, that is, maximum transmission unit, is the size of the largest datagram that can be easily sent over the network, and TCP chooses the best MTU value to improve the connection speed.
How to use a TCP Optimizer?
If you’re a network administrator or someone who is into networking, then you must be familiar with the different registry settings. So, you can make custom registry settings with the help of a few clicks. However, if you’re not that well versed with different registry settings, then you can use a TCP optimizer to automatically optimize the connection speed after providing some basic inputs to it. Adjust the connection speed slider from the menu, select the network adapter, and click on Optimal Settings to tweak the connection speed. That’s it.
