The Invisible Mode of Yahoo Messenger allows users to appear offline. While actually being offline prevents the user from communicating with his/her friends, Invisible Mode allows the user to still IM and send files to other users while appearing offline to everyone else. When communicating with friends in Invisible Mode, the user’s friend will still receive a message stating that the user is offline and receive messages when he/she signs in. However, the user will receive the message as it is sent.

 

How To Enable Invisible Mode

Yahoo users can enable invisible mode by pressing Ctrl+Alt+I while the Yahoo Messenger screen is open. Alternatively, the user can open Yahoo Messenger, click on the “Messenger” tab, click “My Availability”, and select “Invisible to Everyone”. To disable Invisible Mode, the user can press Ctrl+Alt+A or click on the “Messenger” tab, click on “My Availability”, and select “Available”.

 

Applications

Yahoo Messenger Invisible Mode can be used when a user wants to communicate with a specific friend, but avoid conversation with another contact who is online. Although the user may not wish to permanently delete a contact, he/she may not wish to communicate with that person at that time. By enabling Invisible Mode, the user can still communicate with any friend he/she chooses to, but will appear offline to all users.
