How to Use Microsoft Word
What is Microsoft Word?
Microsoft Word is a powerful text editor that comes with the Microsoft Office software bundle. Microsoft Word allows the user to edit text in a wide variety of ways through the use of font styles, font sizes, layouts, background and foreground colors, tables, links, and more. Microsoft Word is also able to process text in a number of languages and provides the user with a current word count, character count, and page count. Microsoft Word saves documents in the .doc and .docx file formats and can even export documents as PDF files.
Font Options
Microsoft Word includes a number of font options to spruce up any document and give ebooks, manuals, records, etc. a professinal appearance. Microsoft Word's font options include a list of over 50 font styles, over a dozen font sizes, and virtually every font color imaginable. Users are also able to change how their fonts and text are displayed by highlighting a specific line of text and selecting Bold, Italic, Underline, or Strikethrough. Clicking on one of these options again removes the selection.
Page Options
In addition to its font options, Microsoft Word also has a number of page options that allow the user to properly align their text and set it up in a professional fashion. Microsoft Word's page options include the ability to zoom in and out, align both specific lines of text and entire paragraphs to the left, center, right, or justified position. Users are also able to highlight text, change the document's background color, print the document, increase and decrease the indentation of a paragraph, and create both numbered and bulleted lists.
SpellCheck and Language Options
Microsoft Word is highly compatible in its ability to recognize and process text. This can be seen by its ability to process text in nearly every language and check the user's spelling and grammar against popular dictionaries. It can do this whenever the user chooses to run a spell check as well as in real-time while the user is typing. With the use of plug-ins, Microsoft Word can even be loaded with entire dictionaries or definition databases in order to recognize a wide variety of new and subject-specific words.
Tables
In addition to its ability to recognize and process text, Microsoft Word is famous for its ability to create tables within documents. This feature allows users to organize information for easy record-keeping, analysis, and calculations. It also allows users to create objects such as forms, charts, and even control panels by inserting interactive functions into individual table cells. With quick and easy controls for adding new rows and columns, the user never has to worry about creating a perfect table before the content is added. Microsoft Word also includes options for converting tables into text and vice versa. Likewise, formulas and AutoFit functions allow tables to be highly efficient and interactive. Users should also keep in mind that tables can be used to hold pictures, videos, presentations, spreadsheets, and a wide variety of other objects from other Microsoft Office programs.
Hyperlink
The hyperlink option in Microsoft Word allows users to insert links from a wide variety of sources. These include webpages, FTP channels, Telnet ports, email messages, news articles, specific documents, and even new documents that the user can create on the spot. Hyperlinks can be added to any text or image and can even be specifically styled to match the user's background and font colors.
Layout Options
Microsoft Word includes two layout options: Print Layout and Web Layout. Print Layout is the default display that Microsoft Word uses to edit text. Web Layout is a layout option that allows the user to see what their document would look like in a web browser.
