Java for Mac
Java is a fundamental software that is required to view many webpages (or at least webpage content) and must be downloaded on a computer. Java provides webpages with interactivity, much like Microsoft’s Silverlight software, and is used in a wide variety of online tasks such as online games, databases, interactive videos, 3D imaging, and browser based applications.
Java For Mac
Java For Mac is a program package specifically designed to be used on Mac computers. Java For Mac can be found here and can be downloaded by clicking the “Download Now” button at the top of the page and following the on-screen commands to install it.
This Java For Mac update includes all of the same features as Java For Windows, but also upgrades J2SE 5.0 to 1.5.0_30 and upgrades Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_26 for 64-bit capable Intel-based Macs.
Advantages/Disadvantages
Java For Mac allows users to take advantage of Java features and toolsets on Mac computers and access websites that run Java components. For example, the popular online role playing game, RuneScape, runs on Java and requires the user to have Java installed on his/her machine in order to play the game.
Before this update became available, Mac users were not able to participate in Runescape or other online services that depend on Java to function. As Java does not have a user interface, Java For Mac does not appear too different from Java For Windows, but simply provides support for Java related programs.
