Linksys Default Password
Linksys routers have a built-in control panel that allows you to change configuration settings, set the router to work with other devices, and set up network security. You can access this control panel by entering 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of any web browser. You will then be prompted for your username and password (this information is printed on the bottom of the Netgear router and you can use it if you have never accessed this control panel before). If you can’t find this information on the bottom of the router, the you can access the control panel by entering “admin” in the username field and “password” in the password field.
How to Change a Linksys Password
Most people change the default password in order to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the Linksys control panel. To do this, you need to log into the Linksys router and open the Configuration menu. From there, you can change your password by entering the old password and creating a new one. If you cannot find the Configuration menu, you can run the Setup Wizard, which includes the same option.
How to Reset a Linksys Password
If you have forgotten your password, he/she can reset the router by pushing a small, pointed objecting into the “Reset” button on the bottom of the router. Press the reset button on the router for ten seconds. The light on the router will start blinking. When it stops, the reset button can be released. This will erase all content and configuration settings on the router and allow you to access the router’s control panel by entering the default information.
To create new settings, plug in the computer to the router via an Ethernet port. Then enter the URL: http://192.168.1.1/
The popup will ask for the password and username. For older routers, the username is blank and the password is “admin.” For newer routers, both username and password are “admin.”
If you still can’t do it, unplug the router from the power source. Wait for at least ten seconds for the router to reset and then plug it back in. If this does not work, contact Linksys and ask for some help.
